The American Indian Center (AIC) garden started in 2022 with a mission of creating a vibrant space to attract and strengthen ties with members of the local American Indian community.
This garden showcases native plants and practices used by the American Indians long ago. This site honors the tradition of "3 sisters" planting, including corn, beans, and squash. The squash provides shade and helps keep the soil moist. The corn grows high so the beans may ‘climb’ up as they grow. The beans put nitrogen directly into the soil which is essential for the corn to thrive.
